AASD
New name - same innovative school
Posted on 06/29/2017
We are excited to communicate a positive change at the Appleton Career Academy. Our Governing Board has completed a thorough strategic review and has recommended a name change to better reflect the essence of our Academy. We are thrilled to reveal our new logo (above) and name: FOX CITIES LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (FCLA).

Like the ACA, all students who desire an educational experience that involves presentational opportunities, encourages teamwork, insists on personal responsibility, provides leadership opportunities, and develops 21st century skills will be welcomed into the FCLA. In the past, the Career Academy was directed toward the professions concerning Health, Business and Marketing, or Design Technology but we realized that student interests expanded beyond these three intended fields.

Like the ACA, the Fox Cities Leadership Academy will continue to differentiate its instructional methods from those found within Appleton North by having an integrated learning curriculum. This means the learning looks at the “big picture,” and brings into play two or more subject areas. Learning is interdisciplinary in both content and process, and often thematic in nature. Subsequently, the environment allows for diverse student inquiry, choice of topic, etc. within the teacher’s seminar design.

Our school will undergo some minor changes as we broaden our appeal to students and community partnerships from throughout the Fox Valley. We will encourage students to join a co-curricular club or activity, participate in a professional experience such as a job shadow, enroll in a community-based educational experience or internship, and engage in leadership training. The Fox Cities Leadership Academy will continue to offer core credits in English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies as well as Physical Education, Personal Financial Management, and Fine Arts - all graduation requirements. The FCLA also offers elective credits in many areas.

Please be assured, we are the same innovative school. FCLA will continue to offer a rigorous contemporary interdisciplinary curriculum that provides students with the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills, increase problem solving abilities, and grow leadership capacity within a small learning community. We now have a name that more closely matches our educational goals.

We hope you are enjoying your summer and look forward to educating your son or daughter in fall at the Fox Cities Leadership Academy.
